Royals Vote to Return to D3

In a close vote at the semi-annual team meeting May 7, the members of the St. Louis Royals RFC decided to return to the MRFU Division 3 tournament pool after an unsuccessful season in D2.

The team had enjoyed widespread success in Division 3 prior to the decision to move up following a 5th-place overall finish at the USA Rugby National Championships. Seeking tougher local competition, the team chose to try the waters in Division 2. Increased travel expenses, loss of key players to injury, work and school, and attempting to field two full competition sides resulted in a very strained and unproductive 2011-2012 season.

The Royals’ decision to move back to D3 came about from a desire of many members of the club to achieve all that was possible in their former division before making the move to a higher division of play. In addition, a new change in the league-play structure in D3 means that the Royals will be able to play all D3 cup matches in the first half of the season, leaving the Spring open to exhibition matches against more competitive clubs to prepare for the territorial and national championships.

Royals Seek to Finish Strong

The Royals have one last week before putting the 2011-2012 season in the rear-view. The last game of the season will be played against the Kansas City RFC in KC this Saturday, April 21st. The team played a tough match against KCRFC in their last meeting, losing by a narrow margin. That match ended in full time following a brawl in which both teams received a yellow and a red card each, with KC etching out a narrow victory over the Royals. For the last game of the season, the team is headed to KC looking to make up for the tough loss.

Royals Fall to Bombers in Hard Fought Match

Practices have been moved for the Spring 2012 season.

Starting Tuesday, February 7th, and continuing throughout the Spring season, the Royals will practice at their old facility: The Alphabet Soup Academy at 8390 Latty Avenue, Hazelwood, MO 63042-3236
